a summer monday good news
whewwwwwwwwww. are y'all going through it? cuz we're going through it over here. so you know what it's time for? a little good news. have a quick scroll. you've made it through most of the day. you deserve.
Louisiana has some good news, i swear!
there's a lot of talk about what our kids need, and most of it is about punishment and allowing root causes to go unaddressed. i'm under no allusions that this investment will be perfect or solve everything, but this is definitely good news.
"The funding will be allocated from the city’s remaining pot of federal American Rescue Plan money. A plan unveiled by Cantrell's administration in April for the remaining funds also proposed dedicating $8 million to a program to support youth workforce participation."
if electoral politics mean anything in the U.S. it's because of Black Southern voters.
the supreme court surprised the shit out of me by upholding people's rights at the expense of power for the people who appointed them!
Incredible news for Louisiana! We can finally end racial gerrymandering in our congressional maps, and Black Louisianans will finally have proper representation.

To show how bad it is, here’s the map of our 1 majority Black district (we have 6 seats & 1/3 of LA is Black) https://t.co/dAUjMbRhJr pic.twitter.com/mYROGohETG
Louisiana’s congressional map had separately been identified as probably discriminatory by a lower court. That map, too, remained in effect last year and now will have to be redrawn. The National Redistricting Foundation said in a statement that its pending lawsuits over congressional districts in Georgia and Texas also could be affected.
thank goodness this one man can prevent harm for so many of us!
but seriously, JBE said naaaaah to all the real life implications the LA legislative session has been wielding like weapons all session to prove who hates queer and trans people the most.
fuck homophobes and transphobes. i hope each lawmaker who voted for these bills gets a papercut today.
solidarity is all that will save us.
it feels like it's all burning down (in many places, literally). but there is wisdom about how to manage the burn in most of our lineages and a common threat can bring about a unified popular response. it's clear that what is being done to us is killing us. if we decide to say stop, what can go on in its place?
Remember that as climate change becomes more apparent, ideas once unthinkable will become possible. Both the horrific, unjust ideas and the visionary and healing ones. Now's the time for moral imagination.
